Fine collection of 5 mortars with 4 pestles, ranging from the late 16th century to the 18th century.

They are a mix of bronze and brass examples and were purchased from a lifelong collector of Apothecary and 'Kitchenalia' pieces. The earliest example is Spanish, bronze and dating to the late 16th century. It is decorated with 4 raised grotesque masks divided by buttresses.

They are all a good weight (combined weight over 9kg) and with great colour/patina. All are in good condition in line with age and use, the example in picture 5 has a hairline crack but is sound. Please feel free to contact us if you would like to view the items or have any questions.


Size: 1) 13.5cm diameter x 8.5cm tall; 2) 12.5cm diameter x 11cm tall, pestle 18cm long; 3) 13cm diameter x 11cm tall, pestle 17cm long; 4) 10cm diameter x 11cm tall, pestle 22cm long ; 5) 9cm diameter x 8.5cm tall , pestle 20cm long. Combined weight just over 9kg.
