Stunning very large mid 20th century African Benin tribal bronze ceremonial pipe, c 1950.
We have collected African pieces for over 30 years and this is one of the most impressive we have owned. It is huge at 130cm long/tall and beautifully cast and decorated in the traditional lost wax method.
The bowl of the pipe is in the form of two large tribal masks with traditional Benin rooster statues to either side. The stem is beautifully decorated with tribal figures.
Overall condition is good with only minor surface wear/rubbing and the usual small casting holes etc you get from the lost wax casting method. It has good colour/patina and is a very decorative and impressive African tribal piece.
