A rare, very unusual and large antique early 20th Century cow bone scrimshaw or inscribed fetish, Lombok, Indonesia, c1920. We believe it may be based on a cow/ox breast plate/bone.
The piece is profusely decorated all over with quality scrimshaw inscription. It is carved to resemble a face at one end, and has a great lizard motif at the other. This is a rare tribal artefact, with a great look.
